03 / About the artist
Genevieve Rose
Shultz.
“I am interested in the primal reason we dance — and the rhythms that connect us.”
Genevieve Rose Shultz is a choreographer and dance artist whose work is rooted in musicality, groove and the impulse to move. She is fascinated by the ways rhythm connects us, and by the details that emerge when movement and music are listened to closely.
She trained at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, studying Graham, Cunningham, Limón, ballet, Gaga, contact improvisation and composition. With a concentration in composition, she choreographed for the BA production of Dance Nation and worked with artists including Rosalind Newman and Dava Fearon.
Further training in Amsterdam included work with Crystal Pite, Ohad Naharin and Jiří Kylián. At Trinity Laban in London, she studied Hofesh Shechter and completed an MA in Choreography in 2022, following a BFA in Dance and a minor in Arts Management from SUNY Purchase in 2021.
Her work and collaborations include Texture Contemporary Ballet’s WIP and Choreography Project, Pittsburgh’s CelloFest, the American Dance Festival at Alvin Ailey’s Citigroup Theater, Ruth Gibson’s Dazzle – A Reassembly of Bodies, Rossana’s “A La Portugaise”, and dance films Relay and PopPopPop, featured in the Motion State Film Festival.
